Universal Jobmatch – CV Builder Guidance
You can create up to 5 CVs by using
the Copy and Paste function and
then adapting the wording to suit
various job goals. However, only 1
CV can be public at a time so it’s
important that this one contains the
maximum information needed to be
picked up in a search by recruiters.
It is recommended that you use
the CV builder function as this
will help to ensure the CV
contains all the information
needed for the system to match
to a vacancy.
Once you have clicked on “Build CV”, the following screen will be
displayed :
This is a help
tool. Click on
it to open a
help page for
further
information
Fields marked
with an
asterisk must
be completed
Ensure the
email address
won’t put
potential
recruiters off!
Once you have clicked on “save and continue”, the following screen
will be displayed :
A drop down menu will be
available eg. “entry level”,
“experienced nonmanager”
You will then be asked about your work experience :
If you have no relevant work experience, ensure you complete
the “Additional information” box which will appear later –
they will need to include details of any relevant skills, courses,
voluntary work etc.
“End date” field defaults
to “present” so
appropriate end date
must be selected
Vital that this is completed
fully. Use bullet points so that
it’s easier to read. Use
“positive action words”.
Open this for further
information :
Further work experience can be added by clicking on “Add
Experience”. The next screen asks you about your education :
Drop down menu available.
There is also a link available
for educational level
clarifications
If no relevant education, ensure
details of relevant skills and
experience are included in
“Additional information” box
later
Ensure that all dates are correct
and that licences and certificates
are valid. Include internal
courses as well as external.
There is more room to add further
education if required
Ensure that referees have agreed to give a
reference!
Try to have at least one professional
reference. If this is difficult, could you
use a course tutor, provider, etc. Aim
for at least 2 references.
There is a comprehensive list of
languages in the drop down. Further
languages can be added using the
“Add Language” button
Put as much information as possible in this box – information that
doesn’t fit elsewhere, such as :
 Relevant skills and/or voluntary experience if applying for a
job with no previous work experience or no relevant
education
 Relevant achievements from activities undertaken outside
work
 Qualities/attributes backed up with examples
 Interests/hobbies (IF RELEVANT)
 Explanations of gaps in employment eg. training, carer, doing
voluntary work (try to avoid the word “unemployed”
After you have selected the type of job they are seeking, you will be
asked about status, availability and travel preferences …
Most of our customers
should be available for
work immediately, if
unsure check your
Jobseekers Agreement.
If it’s not a problem, don’t put it in here as it can appear
negative. If it is a potential problem, you should state what
action you are taking to address this issue e.g. alternative
sources of child care, looking into car share, etc.
This is the final stage and confirms to you that your CV has been
saved. If you click on “View CVs” they will get the following screen :
You can use “Copy and Paste” to edit a
CV already saved in the service so that it
can be tailored for specific jobs
You can change the status of a
CV at any time by clicking
here. It’s therefore important
that all of the CVs on this
service have the maximum
information and relevant key
words which can be picked up
in a search
