Trigonometry: Graphs and Models. McGraw Hill College Custom Series, 2005. Calculator: required TI-83+ or higher Course Description: In this course, we will cover basic circular functions and their inverse, trigonometric identities, and equations, triangle trigonometry, the law of Sines and the law of Cosines. Students may not receive credit for both Mathematics 108 and 106. This course along with Mathematics 104 will count as the equivalent of Mathematics 108. Course coverage: Chapter 5: Trigonometric Functions 5:1: Angles and Their Measure 5:2: Right Triangle Trigonometry 5:3: Trigonometric Functions: A Unit Circle Approach 5:4: Properties of Trigonometric Functions 5:5: More General Trigonometric Functions 5:6: Inverse Trigonometric Functions Chapter 6: Trigonometric Identities and Conditional Equations 6:1: Basic Identities and Their Use 6:2: Sum, Difference and Cofunction Identities 6:3: Double-Angle and Half-Angle Identities 6:4: Product-Sum and Sum-Product Identities 6:5: Trigonometric Equations Chapter 7: Additional Topics in Trigonometry 7:1: Law of Sines 7:2: Law of Cosines Grades: (% of class grade) 3 Tests: 25% each. Dates to be announced Homework and in-class quizzes: 25% Homework: Homework will be assigned in class and should be completed before the next class period. We will review homework in class. Periodically I will collect homework which will be graded and count as part of the final class grade. If the day I collect homework you are absent, I will only accept late homework if you previously have notified me of your absence. The latest I will accept homework will be the day following the missed class period. There are no other make-ups for missing homework. *** In-class quizzes will not be made-up. The lowest two grades in quizzes or homework will be dropped. *** If I am not contacted prior to exam time and you are absent for an exam, your score for that exam will be a zero. Exams: There will be three one hour exams given during regular class hours. (Dean of Students: Dr. James Chitwood: 424-3100 or chitwood@uwosh.edu) Students may re-take the placement test. Students that feel that they were incorrectly placed in a mathematics course, may be allowed to move up to another course if a subsequent placement test score indicates that a higher placement is appropriate, and if that score is submitted to the math department within 7 days after the first day of classes. Final approval will be subject to enrollment availability.
