Activity 1 – Measuring Out Learning objective: To accurately measure using a ruler Task: 1. Draw a square with 5cm sides 2. Draw a rectangle that is 7cm long and 3cm wide 3. Draw a 2cm border around a piece of paper 4. Draw a 6cm square and draw a small circle in the centre 5. Draw any sized circle using a compass 6. Draw a circle, using a compass with a radius of 3cm 7. Draw an equilateral triangle that is 6cm high, with a 5cm wide base Activity 2 – Cutting Out Learning objective: To accurately cut out using scissors Task: Cut out the following shapes in order using a pair of scissors. The aim is to cut out each shape without going off the lines. 1. Square 2. Rectangle 3. Triangle 4. Pentagon 5. Hexagon 6. ‘L’ shape 7. Star 8. Circle 9. Speech bubble 10. 16 point star Activity 3 – Folding Learning objective: To accurately fold along lines Task: 1. Fold a piece of paper in half 2. Now fold in half again, to make quarters 3. Using the piece of lined A4 paper, fold along all the lines, trying to keep them straight. 4. Draw a square and fold along the lines 5. Draw a triangle and fold along the lines Activity 4 – Using a hole punch Learning objective: To use a hole punch accurately Task: 3. Hole punch a piece of paper using the A4 guide 4. Hole punch a piece of paper using the A3 guide 5. Hole punch a piece of paper using the A5 guide 6. Put one hole punch into the paper 7. Draw a dot onto the paper and try to hole punch over it. Keep practising. Activity 5 – Using paper clips Learning objective: To use paper clips to join materials Task: 1. Cut out all the different parts of the body and attach them together using paper clips 2. Attach different shapes and materials together using paper clips. What can you make? Activity 6 – Using glue and sticky tape Learning objective: To join materials accurately using glue and tape Task: 1. Make a cube out of 6 squares. You can choose any material, but they must be joined using tape 2. Now attach objects to the cube using glue and tape.
