Henry VII 1485 – 1509 Henry Tudor fought Richard III. Richard III died at the Battle of Bosworth. Henry Tudor became the first Tudor king. Rich men called Lords wanted to be king. Henry VII wanted to stop them. He made some new laws. Lords could not build castles or have an army. Henry VII needed money to be a strong king. He made people pay him taxes. This money made him rich. Henry VII died in 1509. His son Henry VIII became king. Henry VIII 1509 – 1547 Henry VIII became king when his father Henry VII died. People in England were Catholic. Henry VIII wanted a divorce. The Pope said no so Henry started a new church. It was called the Church of England. Henry was the head of this church so he could now get divorced. Henry VIII was married 6 times. Henry VIII built many ships and his favourite was a war ship called The Mary Rose. It sank in 1545. Henry died in 1547. Edward VI 1547 – 1553 Edward was Henry VIII's son. His mother was Jane Seymour. When Edward became king he was only 9 years old! He had advisors to manage the running of the country. Edward caught tuberculosis and died in 1553. Mary became queen. Mary I 1553 – 1558 Mary was born in 1516. She was Henry VIII's daughter and her mother was Catherine of Aragon. Mary was a Catholic and she made England Catholic again. Protestants were treated cruelly during her reign. Mary married King Philip II of Spain in 1554. She had no children. Elizabeth became queen when Mary died. Elizabeth I 1558 – 1603 Elizabeth I was Henry VIII's daughter. Her mother was Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth was a protestant and she brought back the Church of England again. Elizabeth did not marry. Elizabeth had a catholic cousin called Mary Queen of Scots. Mary wanted to be queen of England so Elizabeth had Mary beheaded. This made the catholic King Philip II of Spain angry. In 1585 Spain and England went to war. Spain sent lots of boats to England. They were called the Spanish Armada. England's boats won. Elizabeth I died in 1603. She was the last Tudor.
