The Water Cycle….
The story of each raindrop.
The Sea
 The Earth has massive
oceans that store the
majority of our water
 At sea, the sun heats
the top layer of the
water- it warms up and
begins to evaporate.
 Wind also speeds up
evaporation.
The atmosphere
 The water vapour rises
high into the air, where
it begins to cool down.
It condenses on small
particles of dust.
 The dust and water
droplets form clouds,
which are blown
towards the land.
Inland
 The clouds gain more
and more water
droplets, and get even
cooler as they hit hills
and mountains.
 When the cloud is ‘full
up’ with water, it
begins to rain.
 If it is really cold the
rain can form snow.
What happens to the water?
 Some water drains into
rivers and streams.
 Some water sinks through
the soil and rock to
become groundwater.
 Some water is used by
plants and animals.
 How do plants use up
water?
