We are going to tell you a story now about staying safe in the home. 19 . This is a story about Little Miss Safe. One day she decided to visit some friends, so she put on her best clothes, sensible walking shoes and her coat with reflector strips. She walked out of her semi-detached house, switching on her security alarm and locking her front door. She soon left her house in Safetown and arrived at the home of Mr. Dizzy. He opened the door in a real dizzy state. He was making toast in his electric toaster when one of the pieces of bread had got stuck. “What shall I do?” he cried, “Shall I use a knife to get it out?” “NO! NO!” shouted Little Miss Safe, “a toaster is a place where you might touch electricity, using a knife is not the answer!” Don’t touch the wires, you’ll risk your life, electricity will go through the knife, switch off the power, use your head or you will get toasted, not the bread! She said goodbye to Mr. Dizzy and went on her way to visit Mr. Tall and Little Miss Tiny. Mr. Tall opened the door and said “Come in, Little Miss Safe”. She followed him into the kitchen where Little Miss Tiny was trying to reach for the kettle, to make a cup of tea. She shouted, “STOP! STOP! There is electricity running through those wires above your head. There are dangerous things like hot kettles, burning irons, a cooker with red hot rings. Don’t reach up, leaves the wires alone, kitchens are a danger zone. Mr. Tall finished making the tea. After a while, Little Miss Safe waved goodbye to Mr. Tall and Little Miss Tiny and went on her way to visit her good friend Mr. Daydream. At Mr. Daydream’s house, she knocked on the door and found that he was just running himself a hot bath. In his hands he was holding his CD player. NO! NO! She exclaimed. Don’t take that into the bathroom, water does not mix with electricity, you must not touch anything electric while you have wet hands. Electricity can kill, or make you very, very ill. Little Miss Safe waved good bye to Mr. Daydream. She was so glad that she visited her friends and saved them from dangers, but she was happy to go back to her house in Safetown. What an adventure! 20. Here are some safety posters that the children made together. Stand up and show them please. 21. PoemsThe Toaster A silver-scaled dragon with jaws flaming red Sits at my elbow and toasts my bread. I hand him fat slices, and then, one by one, He hands them back when he sees they are done. The message This message to you we want to make clear, So listen carefully, we want you to hear. Don’t put fingers in electric sockets Keep them firmly in your pockets. Keep them away from boiling pans You could get scolded on your hands. Do not play near electric fires, Clothes could catch fire on the wires. Wet hands and electricity do not mix Dry them first or you will be in a fix! Toasters, kettles, microwaves take care, Cookers, hair driers can give you a scare. Irons can burn you and take off your skin Then you would shout and make a loud din! Electric hedge trimmers and mowers too, Could be dangerous tools to you. Adults ONLY should touch these things, Children should play and sit on their swings. TV’s, computers, play stations too, Take care and it will be fun for you! 22. Prayer Let us pray, Dear God, Please keep us safe from all the dangers around us, Amen.
