Assembly Sight Year 4 Fri 26.1.06 Good morning everybody Welcome to our assembly This week we have been thinking about the sense of sight, and how it is so important to us. We use our eyes to see where our friends are at playtime (stand up look round and see friend, run to greet, hug). We use our eyes to see the beauty of the world in which we live, I like to see beautiful flowers growing in a garden with all of their bright colours. We use our eyes to help us do many things, to watch TV, to play on the computer, to read an interesting book, to cook our favourite foods YUM! (stand up with cooking bowl and spoon) We are very lucky to have our eyesight, to help us see and do many things. One man wasn’t as lucky – his name was Bartimaeus and he lived long ago in the town of Jericho. Bartimaeus was a blind man. He lived on the streets and had no friends because he was blind. 1 He sat at the side of the road, day after day and begged from the people who went by to get money for food. He longed to be able to see the people whose voices he could hear passing by and to be able to see the many things around him. One day Bartimaeus heard the people’s voices talking about something special, ‘Jesus is coming!’ He began to shout, ‘Jesus be kind to me. Jesus, please help me’ ‘Be quiet Bartimaeus!’ ALL TOGETHER. But Bartimaeus would not be quiet, ‘Jesus, be kind to me. Jesus, help me’ x2 Jesus was passing by and heard Bartimaeus shouting to him for help, he did not walk by like the others and helped him to his feet. ‘What do you want me to do for you? ‘I want to be able to see, Lord’ 2 Jesus placed his hands over Bartimaeus’ eyes and healed him! He jumped around the street with joy! ‘Go your faith has healed you.’ Jesus helped Bartimaeus because he believed in him, and that he had faith in God. We should help those around us and follow Jesus’ examples of kindness. Hands together eyes closed. Dear God, Sometimes we feel in the dark. We don’t know the way to go. We can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Jesus said ‘I am the light of the world.’ Let the eyes of our hearts be opened. Let the eyes of our hearts be opened to light. Let the eyes of our hearts be opened to love. Let the eyes of our hearts be opened to hope. Amen Thankyou for listening to our assembly.
