Pre-populated Unit Confirmation/Amendment/Deletion Form 2017 Guidelines for completion The Pre-populated Unit Confirmation/Amendment/Deletion Forms for 2017 will be emailed to you or your school in January/February 2016. Please use these guidelines in conjunction with the information on the pre-populated unit confirmation/amendment/deletion form. It is important that you do not enter any information on the left hand (greyed out) section of the form. Only enter suggested amendments in the right-hand column. When you make changes to some areas you may also have to make changes to other related sections (colour coded below as on the form): Primary amendment School Related sections which may require amendment Discipline, Rationale for change of School and/or Discipline Combined Unit, Restrictions Courses offered in Corequisites UNE Supervised Examination required – Yes or None, Learning Outcomes Unit code and Number Proposed Deleted Unit Prerequisites Assessment Tasks Please note that if this form is entered or changed in any way it will be sent to the University Academic Programme Committee (UAPC) for consideration. UAPC will not only look at the proposed change but will also look at all other sections of the form to ensure the information conforms to policy. If you are making a change of any type please review all aspects of the information for your unit before submission. A number of amendments, for example, to the unit code, unit title and overview, may change the unit significantly and it might be determined by UAPC that the School needs to create a new unit. In such instances a New Unit Form would have to be submitted to UAPC for consideration. The following are some guidelines/tips to assist you when making amendments to any of the sections on this form. School Any change to School requires sign-off by the Corporate Intelligence Unit. Contact via AskUNE for advice - http://askune.custhelp.com/app/forms/ask_bi/ 1 Discipline Any change to Discipline requires sign-off by the Corporate Intelligence Unit Staff can look up unit discipline codes on the planning web site at: http://planning.une.edu.au/UNE/Statistics/codes/foe/foe_form.htm You can look up either the meaning of an existing numeric code or search by word for appropriate codes. It also shows the current government and UNE HECS bands, funding clusters and RTS cost. Please confirm you have made the correct choice by contacting the Corporate Intelligence Unit via AskUNE http://askune.custhelp.com/app/forms/ask_bi/ Rationale for change of School and/or Discipline and/or Unit Code and Number Explain briefly why a change to School and/or Discipline and/or Unit Code and Number is required. Unit code and number If changing unit code check Callista to ensure code has not previously been used. Run a query in Callista using the CRSF1210 form. If you do not have access to Callista contact coursesandunits@une.edu.au Remember unit codes are normally 4 alpha and 3 numeric. UAPC will need a rationale for any suggested recoding of a unit. Changing the numeric part of the code, within the same level eg ABC101 to ABC105 is usually not permitted. If you are also changing the unit title and outline you may need to consider if the changes are significant enough to warrant a new unit. Unit Title Unit titles must not exceed 50 characters, including spaces between words. Conjunction words (to, the, and etc.) should not to be capitalised. Short title may also need to be changed. If you are also changing the unit code and outline you may need to consider if the changes are significant enough to warrant a new unit. Combined Unit If the combined unit listed is a ‘new unit’ then a New Unit Form will have to be submitted to UAPC. Credit Point Value Normally units are 6cps or multiples of 6. 2 Grading System Grading System can be Standard, Honours or JMP Standard. Standard Grading System includes the following grades: N-HD and US-SR. Proposed Deleted Unit Why is the unit being deleted What are the implications for courses and students It is particularly important that if the unit is offered in courses in other Schools that the relevant course co-ordinators have been notified/consulted, regarding the deletion of the unit. They may need to submit a course amendment to UAPC to replace the deleted unit. You will need to indicate that you have contacted any relevant course coordinators and list those contacted. Unit Outline Any changes must not exceed the 750 characters, including spaces. There should be no references in the outline to Intensive Schools, unit codes or assessment. If the unit involves practical experience the outline should include the total number of days and and/or hours. E.g.: HSSW310 This is the first of two fieldwork units comprising 450 hours in a social work related practicum. Practical fieldwork is an integral part of social work education and required by the Australian Association of Social Workers for eligibility. Fieldwork placements provide students with the challenge of working with clients in a supervised setting. Placements can be undertaken in a range of social work settings including hospitals, community health centres, community organisations, social service organisations and government bodies. Students are supervised by an experienced social worker during their practicum where they will be expected to undertake the duties of a beginning social work student. Courses offered in Indicate any changes to the courses the unit is offered in and whether it is a core, listed or prescribed unit (see definitions of unit types at end of this bullet point): Core unit: Bachelor of Education (Primary) Prescribed unit: Bachelor of Science (Physiology) Listed unit: Bachelor of Arts 3 Unit Definitions: Core units: o o o o o Compulsory units that all students must do in a course Core units count towards the Course but not the Major Core units are those that would not normally be substituted for any other unit There is usually no choice in Core units but may be justified under certain circumstances eg a choice of MATH120 or STAT100 Please note that Core units must be offered every year Prescribed units: o o o o Compulsory units that students must do towards a Major Prescribed units are those that would not normally be substituted for any other unit There is usually no choice in Prescribed units but may be justified under certain circumstances Please note that where there is no choice or a restricted choice Prescribed units must be offered every year Listed units: o o A choice of units that students choose which contribute to a Major, or where a Course does not have Majors, contributes to the Course and support the Core units. Elective units count towards the Course and not the Major. Special Technical Requirements Enter special technical requirements, if required. Students do not see this information on the Course and Unit Catalogue. If it is important that they see it you may want to enter this information as a unit note. An example: Off-campus students must have access to the statistical package R. Prerequisites If including a course in the prerequisite use the official abbreviation ie BMed or BPharm Please note that permission of head of school overrides any other prerequisite and includes permission granted by course co-ordinator or unit co-ordinator.
