Jospeh Misulia 05/12/2015 HW6.1 1) Adhesive Wear – Adhesive wear can generally be referred to as any time during a wear event when material is removed from one body due to adhesion to another body. 2) Abrasive Wear – Abrasive wear can happen any time a hard surface slides across the surface of a less hard surface 3) Surface Fatigue – Surface fatigue is the process wherein the material is worn due to repeated loading. This wear mechanisms typically feature micro-cracks 4) Erosive Wear – Erosive wear is defined as a series of very short cyclic sliding motions between two surfaces. Erosive wear is a cumulation of a large quantity of tiny sliding motions between two surfaces that eventually can be identified on the macro level 5) Fretting Wear - Fretting wear is created due to the repeated cyclic rubbing of two surfaces. A common example of fretting wear is in bearings, even thought the bearings themselves have been designed in such a way to limit fretting wear
