SOCIAL SECURITY CHARGE Our group is purposing that a price be put on social security cards when a person either loses their card, changes their name, or if a new baby is born. A big issue in today's society is social security, if a charge was placed on the replacement of social security cards, and a charge on the new ones, this would increase the amount of money that our government will receive. A charge of $5.00 for every card that has to be replaced, and members needing new cards for babies will be charged $3.00. We feel this is an all around solution for the lack of income that our social security receives. There should not be very many non-supporters of this plan because it will benefit everyone at some point in their lives. The Federal Insurance Contribution act was passed in 1935 in order to help relieve the cost of aging. Though it has done its job by providing for the elderly, the cost of it has grown rapidly. A charge on the replacement of lost cards and distribution of the new cards could insure survival of social security for our younger generation. Many groups could be in favor of such a fine. The government, young, old, and new born's would benefit from this charge. Just like having a fine on a drivers license and paying the fee everytime it expires, people would pay for the lost or new social security card. Opponents to this proposal would be few. Families of newborns have a number of bills to pay, the fine would only ensure their child's future and could relieve some of the anxiety. There are several political systems that we could introduce this policy to such as FICA (Federal Insurance Contribution Act). The first step would be to appeal to the House to get their approval and then appeal to the Senate for their approval also. To determine the schedule of the relevant Political Processor, we would begin by administering a pole to he mass media/public through the media. Following the pole, an interest group would be formed called FISS (Federal Interest of Social Security). Their function is to support the protection of social security for the next generation. The relevance of our next step of to gain support from a political figure, perhaps the president, in hope that he could pass on our ideas to other important political figure such as congress. For example, the letter would address issues to put into action. We would explain to the problems that our social security and increase the longevity of social security for the future. After organizing our previous steps, we now need to plan a time, place, and date in which we would participate in a government sponsored hearing through FICA. Once our date is set, the next step is to make sure that it is being advertised properly through means of media. Now we will assign an accountable member of our Social Security Board and find a reliable source for an accurate testimony, who can provide the listeners with an empathizing yet informative view on charging for social security cards. By giving a public hearing and providing a testimony, the public is now more informed about FISS and what it has to offer as well as its motives. Soon the media will also be informed of FISS's ideas and proposal, which will give the organization a spot in light the general publics eye, whether it be good or bad publicity. The final and most important step to our organization, where the groups time and energy will be placed is mobilizing the presidential election. Gaining support from a presidential nominee, would be a huge step up for our proposal. The presidential nominee, when in office would select hand picked leaders who would be put into offices such as the Social Security Board. By gaining these supports it would almost ensure that our plan be implemented. We will in exchange, for the presidential nominees support, promise to set up election stations in each states capital where we would spend time and money, from passing out fliers, to hold political speeches in favor of our nominees. Our organization understands that a charge on social security cards would not ultimately solve the problem social security faces. Our goal is not to solve the problem but cushion it until another plan, one that changes the main problems of social security can be enforced. Our organization called FISS ( Federal Interest of Social Security) would include individuals who are concerned about the future of social security. FISS was established in Temple, Tx. in January 1997. Since its first appearance, FISS has grown to posses offices in every state, also the number of members in our organization have doubled in the passed 6 months. Our group will hold its first meeting in the fall of this year where we will established a basic view on the si9tuation. We then will hold a meeting where we will ( in writing) propose our view and vote on the best solution. Next we will send our proposed bill to the House of Representatives and to the Senate. Some of the conflicts that might be faced would be that some people would agree to a charge for social security cards, but disagree on a charge for lost cards. There would be those who have had their card taken or stolen who do not feel it is a relevant topic, also, those who intend to change their name, could feel that the charge should apply to them it is possible that the conflicts could get our proposal shot down in the Senate and in the House. However, we won't give up yet. Our group will then meet once again to change our proposal to accommodate for the strong opposition that we will face. Again, we will send the bill back to the House and Senate where it will again face opposing forces. Our bill will not pass the first few times we send it, but after gaining more support and after all the changes we will do, we believe that our proposed solution will become law written in a few years.
