Burn ban canceled in Bell BELTON — So many months, so little rain and as always, alas… relief. After getting just we needed — a good, long soaking — Bell County commissioners lifted the outdoor burn ban Monday. Reports Brad Stutzman from the Temple Telegram, Assistant Bell County Fire Marshal Hal Pagel told commissioners "We are sitting pretty right now," and " It's supposed to rain all week," added Precinct 3 Commissioner Richard Cortese. Mr. Stutzman reported that measurements at Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport in Temple, the 1.4 inches of rain that fell Saturday came on top of 1.5 inches that had fallen one week ago today. Recent rainfalls increased the year-to-date total to 22.58 inches, through Sunday. That's still well below the normal year-to-date total of 29 inches, but it's an improvement, especially over 1999's year-to-date total of 14.86 inches. Carol O'Connor
