ABSTRACT The History of Temple Junior College: 1965-1998 Talma Haile Botts Mentor: Betty Jo Monk, Ph.D. Community Colleges have become one of the fastest growing educational institutions in the country. One of the primary missions of a community college is to serve the community: to be the educational and cultural focal points in the region. Since 1926, Temple Junior College (now known as Temple College) has done that very thing. Temple College is a public community college located in Temple, Texas. The campus is located on 104 acres in south Temple. The purpose of this study was to provide a history of Temple College since 1965. The study will identify the significant events in the development of Temple College, the characteristics of the college, and describe the philosophy, the organizational structure, curriculum and administrative policies of the school. Interviews as well as other primary and secondary sources were used to gather data on events that shaped the development of this community college.
