Description of Business Environment:
LM is seeking a highly motivated Electronics Design Engineer for the programmes
within the Vehicles Business Area. The role is to Develop, design and support electronic
assemblies through qualification for ground based vehicles.You will be part of a small
team developing Electronic Products through the full NPI life cycle: verifying Electronics
design requirements using DOORs, writing Product functional specifications, verifying
and designing circuitry, performing analysis and simulation of circuit design, generating
test scripts for the design and bench testing of both the Electronics Circuitry and
associated Firmware.
Reporting to the Product Technical Lead and Design Team Lead, the candidate will be
expected to take responsibility for technical test verification / bench integration decisions
of a particular part of the product design, documenting design decisions throughout
development and will also need to work with minimum supervision. Further,
communicating with internal functions, to ensure all views are gauged and understood
before, during and after delivery of the detailed design.
Specific Job Description:
Reporting to the Design Team Lead, the candidate is expected to take responsibility for
the design, development and support of mixed electrical / electronic LRU solutions from
concept to completion following a detailed phase-gate development process. Provide
guidance and governance to the team in the integration of the LRU deliverables,
supporting as necessary assembly and installation. Provides direction to the project
team against specification requirements and further supports design review activities.
Define processes, specifications, and procedures that support the design and
manufacture of the electronic hardware.
Provides direction used cross discipline to develop scope of work, metrics, schedules
and budgets. Provides lead to the LRU design and development, whilst engaging in the
technical detail as an integral member of the team. Provide technical review of supplier
capabilities to facilitate source selection. Facilitate the development of functional and
physical design requirements to ensure complete integrated design architecture.













Design and development of electronic circuitry (includes, analogue, digital,
microprocessor, FPGA design techniques).
Electronic circuit simulation and analysis.
Specification and selection of electronic components.
Working with Schematic Capture and associated PCB layouts.
Testing and evaluation of electronic circuits and components.
Preparation of FMEA’s and design validation documentation.
Preparation of design review documentation.
The ability to produce technical documentation to support all activities, from trade
studies, requirements documentation to final assembly instructions.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong organisational skills, able to co-ordinate various stakeholders into unified
approach.
Self managing and driven to get the results needed.
Flexibility in tasks undertaken.

Required Skills:
The core competences and qualifications for the job are:
 Formal Electronic qualification such as HNC/HND/Beng with a mix of the following:
 Electronics Hardware Design & Product Development
 Digital and Analogue Electronics Design
 Microprocessor Design and Interfaces, digital and analogue
 Schematic Capture and PCB Layout
 Ability to learn, and an appetite to make a real difference
 Strong team player with good written and verbal communication skills
The role will involve working on UK classified programmes the candidate must therefore
be willing and able to obtain a security clearance to SC.
Some of the key areas and skills the role will give exposure and develop include:
 Experience of using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
 FPGA Design and Verification – VHDL coding
 Embedded I/O interface design – Differential/Single Ended/Safety Discrete
interfaces.
 JTAG test and Programming
 FMEA and Component stress analysis
 Electronics Product test and integration
 Derivation of Sub-system architectures & requirements from System requirements
Standard Job Description:
Researches, designs, develops, and tests a variety of electronic equipment and
systems, including radar and radiation detection equipment; radio, television and other
communications equipment and systems; circuitry components; analog and digital
computers; and control and test equipment.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college and capability typically
achieved through demonstrable professional experience. Will also consider individuals
with equivalent experience / combined education. Considered an emerging authority
