Adulthood’s ages and stages
• When people enter their early forties, they go through a transition
into middle adulthood
• This is when they realize most of their life is in the past
• Some psychologists say that this is where people go through a
midlife crisis where they are dissatisfied with how they are living
• The truth is that there is “ not the slightest evidence” that distress is
seen in the midlife age range
• A reason why people think this is when the midlife crisis happens is
because of the Social Clock
• The Social Clock is the culturally preferred timing of social events
such as marriage, parenthood, and retirement
• This varies from culture to culture
