Chapter 26 2nd Homework Assignment
Read pages 863 to 876. Look at my power points on U.S. Imperialism and MWH
Imperialism. Some of the slides are exactly the same but there are some major differences
closer to the end of the slide shows.
Do the following:
1.
Create a global map of the countries that were taken over during Western
Imperialism. Show the European countries (as well as the U.S.) that took over various
areas of the World. Simply go to Google, click on Images and then type in “Blank world
maps.” Print out one and work on it. Be sure to create a legend.
Note: You do not have to label each country on each continent, but you do have to show
the continents and the areas that were IMPERIALIZED by Europe and the U.S. For help
with this, simply go to Google images and type in “Imperialism Map.”

1. Give a description of what Europeans were migrating, where they came from, and did
they have any special qualities? Be sure to show West, South and Eastern Europeans
2. How did they travel, what were the circumstances?
3. How many came to the United States between 1820 and 1924? (show Western and
Eastern Europe)
4. From 1820 to 1924 how many Europeans went to Canada?
5. Where did Western and Eastern Europeans go and stay?
6. What circumstances favored migration? What circumstances hindered migration?
7. What were the positive and negative consequences of migration? Be sure to discuss Long
term and Short Term?
8. What were the reactions to the immigrants in the U.S. and in Canada?
