Explores the history of language and diverse cultural, historical and socio-political features of the French and Francophone cultures. Goal Area 6: Humanities & Fine Arts Expand appreciation and critical understanding of changing modes of human expression and systems of thought in the arts and humanities, and develop abilities in the creation and performance of meaning. The overall focus of this course is the analysis and comparison of how the distinct ethnic make-up of each region of the French-speaking world influences the distinct modes of human expression and systems of thought in the arts and humanities that come from each region. Of particular interest, artistic contributions from France and Francophone countries to global cultural patrimonies and universal aesthetic values. The course develops an understanding of the role of French artists in conveying the ideals behind every artistic creation as part of shared cultural experiences and appreciation of the Human condition. 13.
