Deaf culture and the development/role of American Sign Language. Acquisition of receptive skills and
expressive use of American Sign Langugage. 3 Cr. F, S.

Goal Area 6: Humanities & Fine Arts
Expand appreciation and critical understanding of changing modes of human expression and systems of
thought in the arts and humanities, and develop abilities in the creation and performance of meaning.
In CSD 171, students are taught how to use another method of human expression - sign language. They
develop abilities to communicate via sign language. They are also taught about the deaf community and deaf
culture.
13. In order for a course to be designated as fulfilling Goal Area 6, it must address at least 5 of the 7 student learning
