Goal Area 11: Information Literacy and Technology To locate, evaluate critically, and use information to meet an identified information need and develop appropriate information technology skills. The course is designed to impliment current technological practices of the university. The learners evaluate their ability to organize information and data then develop a systematic approach for storage and retrieval of the information and data. Using multiple software applications the learners develop skills to discern appropriate input and output devises for various applications including computer numerical controlled manufacuring equipment. 13. In order for a course to be designated as fulfilling Goal Area 11, it must address 4 of the 4 student learning outcomes (SLOs) below. Check the SLOs below that are focused on in the proposed general education course. 1. Identify and analyze an information need effectively and efficiently. 2. Access information using an effective search strategy and appropriate resources. 3. Critically evaluate information and its sources in order to determine information reliability and accuracy, and discern its point of view, bias, and authority. 4. SLO 1: Students will identify and analyze current data to evaluate computer application software and hardware, as well as applying the data to design and produce computer numerical control projects. SLO 2: Students will use a variety of on-line searching strategies and techniques to locate current industry topics, trends and leaders in the computer industry creating an electronic organixation folder. SLO 3: Students will evaluate current publications and documents for accuracy and authenticity of the information. Developing a checklist to help identify and determine best practices ofr evaluation. SLO 4: Students will search, evaluate, and discuss the ethical issues in today's communications technology. Group discussion questions will be used to evaluate current issues facing a variety of occupations. 15.
