First Grade Newsletter Week of 1/11/16 Weekly Themes/Units: ELA- (Domain 4) Listening and Learning- Students will finish Domain 4 Assessment. Students will begin Domain 5- Early American Civilizations. Skills (Unit 3)- Unit 3 Review/Assessment MATH- (Module 2- Introduction to Place Value Through Addition and Subtraction within 20) Students will solve put together/take apart with addend unknown word problems and relate counting on to the take from ten strategy. Students will solve add to with change unknown problems, relating varied addition and subtraction strategies. Students will strategize to solve take from with change unknown problems. Students will strategize and apply understanding of the equal sign to solve equivalent expressions. Students will identify 1 ten as a unit by renaming representations of 10. SOCIAL STUDIES- Students will read a classroom map. Students will use a compass rose to determine direction. Students will use symbols to create a classroom map. Students will identify maps that show local areas, the United States, and the world. DATES TO REMEMBER: 1/18- NO SCHOOL- MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY REMINDERS: -As the weather begins to change, please remember to send your child with warm clothes for the playground. They will need boots, gloves, hats, snowpants, and a warm winter coat for the upcoming snowy weather. -We are in need of more tissues and disinfecting wipes. Thank you in advance! -Please be sure your child is practicing their spelling words every night for 5-10 minutes. The words are included in the homework packet, and the spelling test is every Friday. -Please review your child’s classroom snack procedure and be sure to send in snack once a month for the class.
