Members of the Panel,
Please include changes in your recommendations that will provide EQUAL
treatment under the law for Gay and Lesbian couples. I have been in a
monogamous relationship with my partner for 26 years. However, since
we are not allowed to marry, we are treated unfairly for tax purposes.
- I pay taxes on my partner's health insurance
- I can't use your flexible medical account (HCRA) for my partner's
medical costs
- The retirement benefits for my partner will be taxed higher than a
married couple
Please ensure that these inequities are addressed.
