Attie, PhD R. 322 South Hall Office: 635-2028 Email: pattie@lssu.edu Course Description Directed and evaluated teaching internship in heterogeneous classrooms. Teaching worthwhile content to students with varied learning needs. Theoretical and field based reflective explorations of teaching dilemmas. During the course of the experience, the Intern will demonstrate achievement proficiencies in the areas of planning, lesson delivery and implementation, assessment and self-reflection, establishment of learning climate, and professional dispositions. (See Michigan Entry Level Standards) The goals of the Internship include but are not limited to the Intern demonstrating proficiency in: (a) the design, implementation, and assessment of learning activities that are effective in student learning; (b) descriptions, explanations, and reasoning behind the methods of classroom organization for the students with whom they work; (c) designing and implementing a variety of means to assess student interests, abilities, and achievement in order to more effectively design lessons, instruction, and classroom management; (d) actively reflecting on the internship teach ing experiences through the use of journaling through which are addressed best practices research, proposed plans of implementation, and assessment of approaches applied to pedagogical practices; (e) the identification and use of resources to meet the need s of the students in their assigned classrooms; (f) the use of technology to enhance students learning and to enhance personal pedagogical practice; (g) articulating a personal philosophy of education that frames the professional practice in the classroom; (h) professional growth and dispositions and pedagogical achievement towards the attainment of the Michigan Entry Level Standards for Teachers of The Michigan Department of Education ; (i) the development of a professional electronic portfolio. The professor of record will assign the final grade (Pass, Fail) for TE 491/492 after thorough review of the teaching performance evaluations, the professional portfolio, and samples of lessons. Grading: The grade in TE 491/492 will be determined after a thorough review of the following: I . The university supervisor and mentor teacher formal evaluations of Coaching performance based on the demonstrated proficiencies delineated in the Michigan Entry Level Standards for new teacher certification. 2. The quality of the professional teaching portfolio. Please note: All students enrolled in this course must earn a B- or better in TE 602 and TE 480 courses to continue their studies in the LSSU teacher education program. A B- is the minimal pass grade for the TE 491/492 courses on a pass/fail system. Disability Services and Accommodations for Students.
