Strategic Plan The committee members discussed “Using the Balanced Scorecard as a Strategic Management System” and “Translating Performance Metrics from the Private to the Public Sector and discussed how using the Balanced Scorecard approach to creating the strategic planning process would create an on-going, perpetual process. This process focuses on four process: Translating the Vision, Communicating and Linking the Vision, Business Planning (setting targets and initiatives), and Feedback and Learning. The consensus was that adopting this model provides a means of setting objectives, measuring objective performance, and creating continuous assessment of goals and objectives. Also, the inclusive nature of the Balanced Scorecard allows for decisions and measurements to be based on more than quantitative data, but forces constituents to create decisions and measurements based on the vision. The committee members began working on the strategic plan document. Everyone agreed that adding the vision statement the committee developed a year ago in conjunction with surveys of the campus community should be included in the strategic plan. The core values were also included and discussed that the core values should be identified as the building blocks of both the mission and the vision. The rest of the time was spent working on writing the seven goals identified by TMR/Board Retreat and the modification of the goal objectives developed during Fall 2010 semester by the SPBC. Seven general goal statements were written; evaluation and wording of the goals will be addressed at the next meeting. The structure of this section of the strategic plan will include these key areas: Goal Overview (for lack of a better name), goal, and objectives. At the next meeting, we will be writing the objective statements related to each goal identified in today’s process. Next Meeting At the next meeting which will be June 28, 1-3, in the Library Marine Room, the committee will review the goal statements and begin writing the objective statements.
