The LSSU Health and Safety Committee will make recommendations to the Shared
Government Oversight Committee on issues relating to the health, safety, and wellness of
the university community. This Committee will also:
o Respond to submitted issues concerning health and safety and make
recommendations to SGOC for non-emergency matters, or report to public safety
in the case of an emergency with an “After Action Report” to SGOC.
o Review unresolved issues of safety inspections and make recommendations.
o Develop the University Health & Safety Action Plan with the appropriate
department or constituencies. Review this plan annually in order to make
recommendations and revisions as necessary.
o Review and recommend ongoing educational safety programs for the university
community. Communicate with constituencies to gather and disseminate health
and safety information
The bylaws were reviewed and discussed. Motion made by Yeadon, second by Southwell to
delete the second half of the first bullet in the bylaws. Discussion centered on the fact that while
this committee would respond the emergency situations as requested or needed, it is not a
Health and Safety Committee – meeting December 8, 2015
function of the committee. All members present were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.
Oliver will draft the Issue Submission for SGOC and bring it to the next meeting for approval.
Health and Safety Action Plan:

Suggestion was made to review the plans that are already in place and decide which plans
are missing. Southwell suggested that the Gap Analysis Report by TriMedia may help
with this. He will send this to committee members.

Yeadon suggested the group look at programs available on Wombus platform to address
some of the potential training issues related to the action plan needs. She will send a link
to committee members for review.

Discussion about how much of the committee work would become part of the new
Chemical Hygiene Officer’s job description. Most of the duties are housed in the
Physical Plant currently. Oliver to inquire about the hire date for this person.
Fire drills in academic buildings – brief discussion on how to assure drills occur as mandated by
state or local authorizes.
Motion to adjourn: P. Stevens, second by Yeadon. Meeting adjourned at 3:55 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lori Oliver, MSN, RN
Chair, Health and Safety Committee
