High School EXPO Requirements
You may have already talked to the high school counselors about classes for next year. As you are making your choices,
you need to know that there are not specific EXPO classes at the high school level. Your GT service will be provided by
Pre-AP and AP teachers. Therefore, to continue as an EXPO student, you must take at least one Pre-AP or AP course
every year you’re in high school. If you have already turned in your schedule for next year and it did not include at least one
Pre-AP class, please ask to have your schedule changed. This needs to be done as soon as possible. If you are not
enrolled in a Pre-AP class next year, you will either be furloughed (take one year off from EXPO, but then be automatically
back in it your 10th grade year and you will have to take Pre-AP or AP classes), or you may exit from EXPO (get out of the
program completely). You may obtain the furlough or exit forms from your EXPO teacher.
I hope you chose to challenge yourself with a Pre-AP course. The benefits are:
 You may include that you are in the gifted program when you complete scholarship applications
 Occasionally, scholarship opportunities will come to me and will only be available for students in the gifted program.
 If you are planning on going to college, the AP courses are the best preparation for college that you can get.
 It would be sad to get out of the program at the end when you’ve been in it for a while. 
So, if you haven’t already registered for a Pre-AP class, please talk with your parents and decide what your strengths are
and what course(s) would be best for you. If you choose to take a furlough for next year or to exit from the program
completely, your parents will need to sign a form for that to be official. Furloughs are only allowed once throughout your
school career, so if you’ve previously furloughed from EXPO, that will no longer be an option for you.
