Teacher’s Using the Internet By Peggy Jo Stanley www.pjteaches.com Pjteaches@juno.com Creating a Cyber Classroom Surf the web looking at other teacher’s websites, asking yourself some questions: • What draws you into the website? • What distracts you from enjoying the website? • What would you change to make it more effective? Possible Class Page Content • • • • • • • • Announcements/Events Course Description Communication Class Rules Homework/Assignments Links to Standards Contact Information Links - specific, general, favorite, fun Possible Class Page Content • Teacher Information • Calendar/Schedule • Materials • FAQs • Student Work • Practice Opportunities • Parent info As you consider the content, ask yourself about the purpose of the page. Is it for promotion, outreach, homework, information, student sharing, or parent involvement? Who is the audience? How will resources be used? Why will they want to return? Make your page attractive, interesting, and informative. Include contact information, background information.Think about accomplishments, announcements, news, and other things that will draw people back to the site. If you include policies and procedures, make them interesting. Locating a Web Host There are many websites that provide free web hosting for personal and school web pages.
