Dr. David J. Birnbach - Biosketch David J. Birnbach, MD, MPH is currently the Vice Provost of the University of Miami where he is also a Professor of Anesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Public Health. In addition, he is Associate Dean and the Director of the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital Center for Patient Safety. Dr. Birnbach completed his medical training, anesthesiology residency and fellowship at Harvard University and his public health training at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Birnbach is the editor of two textbooks which have been translated into several languages and has published more than 100 peer reviewed articles. He has lectured throughout the world, has been a consultant to the NIH, and is currently the Chair of the FDA panel on Anesthesiology and Respiratory Therapy Devices. Dr. Birnbach currently sits on several editorial boards and is the past president of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. He is currently a Fulbright Scholar at Imperial College London, UK, doing research on new methods to teach Patient Safety to undergraduate medical students.
