The Center for the Study Sport in Society Internship Program
About the Center
Sport in Society educates and supports emerging leaders and organizations within sport with the
awareness, knowledge and skills to implement innovative and impactful solutions for social change.
As a result, we unite the global sports industry under a shared mission of social responsibility. We
focus our efforts on issues related to building communities that are healthy, safe and inclusive. We
achieve our mission through socially responsible leadership education and professional development,
consulting and capacity building.
The Center has four areas of focus, which includes the following:
1) Facilitating training in our world renowned social justice education programs; MVP, which focuses
on preventing gender-based violence, and ProjectTeamwork, a diversity and inclusion program.
2) Serving as a global resource for sport-based youth development organizations through academic
credentialing and professional development.
3) Tackling the issue of social injustice at its core by providing access to higher education by creating
local, national and global partnerships for degree completion.
4) Engage the community through education, training, service and sport to promote positive cultural
change.
About the Internship Program
The Sport in Society Internship Program allows students and individuals from any academic discipline
the ability to gain hands-on experience working on Center projects. We welcome both undergraduate
and graduate students, as well adults who have an interest in sport, social justice, education, and
healthy development to apply for the internship program. Students with diverse or multi-ethnic
backgrounds and interests are strongly encouraged to apply.
Scope of Work
Sport in Society internships are flexible, both in terms of time and scope. Interns work on a wide
variety of projects that support Sport in Society’s work and will give them a broad range of experience
to further their learning and development. Each intern focuses on at least one research topic that relates
to his or her own areas of interest; interns then work with a staff member who works with them to
develop projects that meet their educational goals as well as our organizational goals. Focus areas
include:

Research and Evaluation

Managing Social Media Outlets

Program Development

Marketing



Administrative Support
Interns attend staff meetings, help plan and execute organizational-wide events like conferences and
fundraisers, and draft materials for both external and internal use. In addition, interns team up on a
variety of administrative tasks that help keep our office running and assist in our community outreach
on a regular basis. We are committed to offering interns ongoing opportunities for professional
development. Ideally, interns will work at least 15 hours per week. Many choose to work 30-35 hours
per week.
