I would like to extend a special welcome to the new youth development staff who have joined us over the past few months. The appropriation of additional funds by the Illinois General Assembly for unit youth development educators is providing us with greater opportunities to improve and expand our programming. I find it exciting to learn of the backgrounds and talents of our new staff and think of the new opportunities that we will have to more effectively meet the needs of Illinois youth. Experienced members of IEPYE, please extend an invitation to new staff in your area to join you at regional and state IEPYE functions. It is critical that we welcome and mentor our new members. Bill Million, IEPYE Vice President, is currently assigning mentors to recent IEPYE members. If you would like to volunteer to serve as a mentor or are a new member who would like an IEPYE mentor and friend, please contact Bill. Our challenge for the new year not only lies in welcoming and mentoring new members, but also identifying and meeting the needs of all of our members. IEPYE has helped Extension professionals in Illinois become top-notch professionals. The more you’re involved, the more you benefit. IEPYE needs the energy of ALL its members. A special thank you to all those who worked hard to make our fall annual meeting and our events in Denver successful. Thank you to the many committees that are currently hard at work and to all of the committee chairs, regional directors and IEPYE officers who are giving us direction. At Annual Conference Judy Taylor, Diane Baker and myself met with the leadership of the other three associations to continue the leadership of the Illinois Join Council of Extension Professionals. This group will continue to serve as the voice to help unify our associations. Last fall the group sponsored the joint association awards luncheon at Annual Conference and currently the group is planning the second IJCEP Spring meeting. Diane and I will be traveling to the North Central Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP) in March. We will be meeting with the North Central Presidents and president-elects. This conference will focus on leadership development within the association. Later this spring, Diane will attend Public Issue Leadership Development (PILD) Conference in Washington. Also, I would like to extend a special congratulations to Chris Anderson for being elected as the North Central Region Junior Director. Our IEPYE organization has greatly benefited from Chris’ leadership and now the North Central Region will also have that opportunity. CONGRATS CHRIS!
