REQUIRED TEXT: LE II: Communication, Awareness, and Leadership (Textbook and Workbook)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The LE-II course for the second semester contains 6 lessons, divided into
two units and two Chapters. Leadership and communication instruction will normally be conducted using a
variety of teaching styles Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On every other Monday, cadets will be
prepared to discuss current events. On Wednesday, cadets are required to wear the Uniform of the Day
(UOD) and will be inspected by a senior cadet, under the instructor’s supervision. On Friday, cadets will
be prepared to participate in the Physical Fitness Program.
AS-32 focuses on the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (AJFROTC) mission to “develop
citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” This is accomplished through
better communication, increased awareness of self and others, and improved leadership. Woven
throughout the course is the underlying theme of developing personal integrity while emphasizing
leadership and other values, such as service and excellence.

NOTE 1: Final Exam date is 26 May and no early final exam dates will be permitted.
NOTE 2: All uniform inspection dates, physical conditioning dates, homework assignments, and test
dates will be annotated at least one month in advance of the scheduled date and can be viewed via
https://mymps.mpsaz.org/# (ParentVUE and StudentVUE). I encourage you to create your account at the
soonest opportunity.
NOTE 3: Grade books will be updated every Friday.
CURRENT EVENTS: Beginning 25 Jan & every other Monday, cadets will turn in a current events
report. They will read one news story of local, state, or national significance and turn-in the assigned
graphic organizer & be prepared to present the current event in front of the class covering the “Who, What,
When, Where, Why”, as well their opinion on the article. This will aid in working on the cadets critical
reading, writing & presentation skills. NOTE: Sports, entertainment, and weather stories are not
authorized subjects.
IMPROMPTU MODAY: Beginning 18 Jan & very other Monday, cadets will be expected to present an
impromptu topic to the class. The speech must be between 2-3 minutes. The idea is to focus the
presentation on the outline provided during the Chp 2 discussion … using the proper components of the
overview, body & conclusion.
SPEAKING PRESENTATION: Cadets will accomplish an 8-10 minute presentation on a significant
leader in military history; highlighting how their contributions (either negatively or positively) reflect the
Air Force core values of integrity, service before self, & excellence in all we do. Students will be required
to use/integrate a minimum of three credible sources (one per main point). A computer generated outline
will be turned into the instructor on the day of the presentation.
UNIFORM DAY: Cadets will be issued an AFJROTC uniform and physical fitness uniform. Specific
AFJROTC uniform items will be worn each Wednesday as designated by the AFJROTC Corps Group
Commander. Strict adherence to the Air Force dress and appearance standard is required & will be
inspected every Wednesday as part of their overall grade. AFJROTC Cadets are responsible for the weekly
cleanliness of these uniform items and lost or damaged uniform items are the cadet’s financial
responsibility and will be noted in the student records as a student fine until paid. Further, students will be
assessed one question during each inspection utilizing the Dobson AFJROTC Cadet or Promotion Guides.
PHYSICAL TRAINING (PT): All new cadets will be provided a health screening questionnaire &
must be completed by all Cadets who will participate in physical training every Friday. Cadets will basic
physical training as well as participate in group sport activities. Cadets will also be required to participate
in the President’s Physical Training Program. All cadets are required to be in appropriate PT clothes prior
to the beginning of class. Cadets are graded on their overall effort during PT. They are also graded wearing
the proper/issued Dobson AFJROTC PT uniform. Failure to wear the proper uniform will result in a 50%
deduction in their daily grade. All unexcused absences will result in a 0% for their daily grade. SAFETY
NOTE: Beginning the night before, please … ALWAYS remember to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, and
HYDRATE.
CURRICULUM-IN-ACTION (CIA TRIPS): Cadets are provided opportunities to leave school on field
trips. These trips may include visits to museums, Air Force installations, colleges, and National Guard
Units. Other visits may be to the local junior high schools to recruit cadets for the AFJROTC program and
community service activity visits such as a veteran’s home or hospital. Other trips will be as required to
compete in drill competition and support community requests for color guard presentations.

Cadets are required to accomplish all reading assignments and complete the “lesson review
questions” prior to the day the lesson is being taught.
Cadets will actively participate in all classroom discussions as an active listener and discussion
leader.
All cadets are required to wear the uniform of the day throughout the school day on designated
uniform days and adhere to Air Force dress and appearance standards. Cadets returning from any
excused absence are required to wear the assigned uniform all day on the day of return.
Cadets will participate in physical training every Friday. All cadets are required to be in
appropriate PT clothes prior to the beginning of class.
When scheduled, read/review one news story of local, state, or national significance each weekend
and, utilizing the graphic organizer provided, write a synopsis of the story in the “Who, What,
When, Where, Why” format. Sports, weather, and entertainment stories are not accepted.
Late assignments will be accepted up to 5 days past the due date with a 10% deduction of your
overall score for each day late. Situations that result in the cadet turning in an assignment past the
“5 day rule” will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Cadets returning from any excused absence are required to turn in their assignments on the day of
return. Get with the class leader to obtain any class notes needed.
Annotate your homework assignment due & test dates in the calendar provided to you on the first
day of class. This will be checked periodically for currency.

All cadets and instructors will perform all business following the concept of “mutual respect”.
Cadets will be at parade rest behind their seats at the beginning of class.
When the SASI enters the room, the room will be called to attention & all cadets will come to the
position of attention.
Cell phones and electronic devices will be turned off and placed in cell phone box prior to the
beginning of class. Back packs will be stored in the back of the classroom.
Cadets may drink “water only” during class, but food is not permitted. If you make the mess, you
clean it up!!!
Flight Commander will take attendance, lead the reciting of the cadet creed and the Flight NCO
will read the announcements at the beginning of the class and dismiss the class after the bell.
Flight Commander & NCO will ensure that all text books are accounted for, all tables and chairs
are in military order, all cell phones have been retrieved from their owner & their area is clean of
all debris prior to departure.
