COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
The Leadership Education course introduces cadets to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
(AFJROTC) program, providing a basis for progression through the rest of the AFJROTC program while
instilling elements of good citizenship. It contains sections on cadet and Air Force organizational structure;
uniform wear; customs, courtesies, and other military traditions; health and wellness; fitness; individual
self-control; and citizenship. All cadets will also become familiar with various aspects of AFJROTC Drill
and Ceremonies that will help them understand the importance of teamwork, self-discipline, pride, and
esprit de corps. Throughout the course, there are readings, videos, hands-on activities, as well as in-text
and student workbook exercises to guide in the reinforcement of the curriculum covered.

COURSE OUTCOMES:
After successfully completing Leadership Education 100: Traditions, Wellness, and
Foundations of Citizenship, the student will be able to:
1. Analyze the heritage, organization, and tradition of service programs.
2. Analyze the benefits of positive personal behavior.
3. Evaluate healthy living through physical activity and good nutrition.
4. Apply safe, drug-free decisions.
5. Analyze the importance of citizenship in the United States.

NOTE 1: Final Exam date is 17 December and no early final exam dates will be permitted.
NOTE 2: All Uniform inspection dates, physical conditioning dates, homework assignments, and test
dates will be annotated at least one month in advance of the scheduled date and can be viewed via
https://mymps.mpsaz.org/# (ParentVUE and StudentVUE). I encourage you to create your account at the
soonest opportunity.
NOTE 3: Grade books will be updated every Friday.
CURRENT EVENTS: Beginning 7 Sep & every other Monday after that, cadets will turn in a current
events report. They will read one news story of local, state, or national significance when assigned and
write a two paragraph synopsis of the story. First paragraph will be in the “Who, What, When, Where,
Why” format & the second paragraph will be the cadets opinion of the article, which will aid in working
on the cadets critical reading and writing skills. Cadets will turn-in the assigned graphic organizer as well
as the two paragraph synopsis. NOTE: Sports, entertainment, and weather stories are not authorized
subjects.
UNIFORM DAY: Cadets will be issued an AFJROTC uniform and physical fitness uniform. Specific
AFJROTC uniform items will be worn each Wednesday as designated by the AFJROTC Corps Group
Commander. Strict adherence to the Air Force dress and appearance standard is required & will be
inspected every Wednesday as part of their overall grade. AFJROTC Cadets are responsible for the weekly
cleanliness of these uniform items and lost or damaged uniform items are the cadet’s financial
responsibility and will be noted in the student records as a student fine until paid. Further, students will be
assessed one question during each inspection utilizing the Dobson AFJROTC Cadet or Promotion Guides.
PHYSICAL TRAINING (PT): All cadets will be provided a health screening questionnaire & must
be completed by 20 Aug. Cadets will participate in physical training every Friday. Cadets will learn
military drill and receive basic physical training as well as participate in group sport activities. Cadets will
also be required to participate in the President’s Physical Training Program. All cadets are required to wear
the issued PT attire. SAFETY NOTE: Beginning the night before PT, please, please, please … ALWAYS
remember to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, and HYDRATE.
CURRICULUM-IN-ACTION (CIA TRIPS): Cadets are provided opportunities to leave school on field
trips. These trips may include visits to museums, Air Force installations, colleges, and National Guard
Units. Other visits may be to the local junior high schools to recruit cadets for the AFJROTC program and
community service activity visits such as a veteran’s home or hospital. Other trips will be as required to
compete in drill competition and support community requests for color guard presentations.

Complete of all class work and homework.
Cadets are required to accomplish all reading assignments and complete the “lesson review
questions” prior to the day the lesson is being taught.
Cadets will actively participate in all classroom discussions as an active listener and discussion
leader.
All cadets are required to wear the uniform of the day throughout the school day on designated
uniform days and adhere to Air Force dress and appearance standards.
Cadets will participate in physical training every Friday. All cadets are required to be in
appropriate PT clothes prior to the beginning of class.
When scheduled, read/review one news story of local, state, or national significance each weekend
and, utilizing the graphic organizer provided, write a synopsis of the story in the “Who, What,
When, Where, Why” format. Sports, weather, and entertainment stories are not accepted.
Late assignments will be accepted up to 5 days past the due date with a 10% deduction of your
overall score for each day late. Situations that result in the cadet turning in an assignment past the
“5 day rule” will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Cadets returning from any absence are required to turn in their assignments on the day of return.
Get with the class leader to obtain any class notes needed. Also, if the absence is on a uniform
inspection day, cadets will wear the assigned uniformed the day they return to school.
Annotate your homework assignment due & test dates in the calendar provided to you on the first
day of class. This will be checked periodically for currency.

All cadets and instructors will perform all business following the concept of “mutual respect”.
Cadets will be at parade rest behind their seats at the beginning of class.
When the SASI enters the room, the room will be called to attention & all cadets will come to the
position of attention.
Cell phones and electronic devices will be turned off and not visible during class...unless approved
by the instructor.
Cadets may drink during class, but food is not permitted. If you make the mess, you clean it up!!!
Class leader will take attendance, lead the reciting of the cadet creed and read the announcements
at the beginning of the class and dismiss the class after the bell.
Cadets will ensure that text books are accounted for, all tables and chairs are in neat order & their
area is clean of all debris prior to departure.
TUTORING/CONFERENCE TIME AVAILABILITY: I will be available to schedule a tutoring
session during advisory time as well as after school. Please be proactive and take advantage of this
opportunity if you feel extra help is needed.
