WEEKLY REPORT Name: Mary Tang Date: 12/9/02 Weekly Report for: December 6, 2002 1. Accomplishments: Sadly, too few this past couple of weeks... But there is very good news... Gladys will be returning to us on Monday, 12/16! She will be back for light duty only, but will also be managing the EE410 class (for which we all rely on her experience and expertise and are eternally appreciative for!) 2. Problems: CAD room PC's: These were taken offline because of some problems with control over usage. Labmembers (other than the ones with files on the network) have generally preferred these PC's NOT to be networked, as others won't use them for surfing. It makes sense to have these dedicated to chip design. John has been working on upgrading these PC's. The plan is to give them more memory and upgrade to Win2000, so that people can use the USB ports for transferring data. We will also have to figure out how to limit access to networking -- people using the Ebeam systems will need to have a way to upload their files to Kaprox. 3. Projects: - Training charges: Thanks everyone, for providing this info. Hopefully, we'll have some good numbers for November, which will show whether or not we can generate more income by changing our charging method. - Daily Area Meetings: This will be extended to the Litho area, daily at 9 am. - Shutdown: Still need to work out the equipment and process details on this schedule. - Cleanup? As part of Yoshio's "better service for labmembers" promise, we should start thinking of small ways in which we can make things more convenient/easy to find/easy to use/better organized for labmembers. For example, Jeannie's glove and lab wipe holders. We will discuss this in our next process staff meeting. 4. Plans: - Wafersaw: Still rewriting the operating procedures... - Chemicals: Rishabh (student helper) is helping out with MSDS's. - Safety Manual: Part I is done and Janine did an absolutely beautiful job of reformatting it (it actually looks like a pro-job now!) Part II is still in the works, but should be done shortly. 5. Equipment Issues: - NNUN Supplement: No progress on this. The CPD will be installed in January -need to work on managing transfer of chemicals between benches, both for the shortand long-term. Uli is working on the new cassette-compatible wbgeneral. And we need to find a home for the electrostatic-free workbench. - Furnace: Lilliputian Systems' new furnace is in place, and is being used! A latch has been installed. It seems that there is a lot of interest in this system; it would be good to have a Coral name so that we can start taking reservations on this system (processing times are typically quite long....) 6. Other: - Meetings: - Gave a tour to a group of ME's from San Jose State. One of them, it turns out, was so captivated by the lab that he will be returning as a labmember, working under John Lee. - Beam tool meetings. This is part of an effort to focus and prioritize issues in the beam tool area. James has been holding meetings with key SNF staff, faculty, and students to get an idea of everyone's concerns. This was followed up last week in a meeting that included Yoshio and David Goldhaber-Gordon. James will be sending out a memo to everyone concerned, which will list the agreed-upon strategies, priorities and deliverables, by the end of this year. - NNUN Annual Review. This was held on Friday. Jane, John, and Yoshio had been preparing for weeks for this visit. Overall, it went quite well -- the Board of Directors had what is now fairly routine praise for our efforts. We also got a sneak preview of what is expected for the next round of proposals. More at the process staff meeting...
