What is a Trading Card?
Trading Cards (or “collectible cards”) are small
cards, usually made out of paperboard or
thick paper, which usually combines an image
of a certain person, place or thing (fictional or
real) and a short description of the picture,
along with other texts (attacks, statistics, or
trivia).
What is a polyptych?
A polyptych generally refers to a painting (usually a panel painting) which is
divided into sections, or panels.
There are many different kinds of polyptychs.

Positive space is the area taken up by the subject matter.
Negative space is the space around the subject matter.
What is a trade card?
Trade Cards were the
ancestors of trading cards.
They were exchanged in social
circles, that businesses would
distribute to clients and
potential customers. A trade
card is an early example of a
business card. Some
businesses began to create
increasingly sophisticated
designs, especially with the
development of color printing.
As they became more
attractive, collecting trade
cards became a popular hobby
in the late 19th Century.
