Advanced Physical Science Course Requirements Mr. A. Gonzalez agonzalez@sfponline.org (718) 423 8810 ext 231 Objectives: This course will provide a general overview of both Chemistry and Physics. The purpose of this course is to better prepare you for Regents level science courses. The course will discuss multiple topics which are fundamental to all Regents level courses. We will attempt to cover a wide range of thought provoking and challenging material. We will examine both the mathematical and real-world application of these concepts. Laboratory experiments will allow you to apply classroom information in various hands-on activities. You will also be assigned several research papers throughout the year, which will further enhance your knowledge of Physics and Chemistry. Course Requirements: Your final grade will be determined by your grades on full-period tests, quizzes, lab reports, projects and homework. All students’ grades will be based on the following: 50 %: Full Period Exams 15 %: Quests 10 %: Quizzes 10 % Lab Reports 10 %: Projects/Reports 5 %: Homework - All assignments are due promptly on the assigned day. Late assignments will be assessed a 15 % penalty for each day late. Assignments more then 2 class sessions late will not be accepted. If you anticipate having problems meeting these deadlines please notify me. - Lab Reports will be due 2 days after they are performed. - Lab Reports must be written in the format assigned by your Laboratory Instructor. - All lab activities and associated data are to be recorded in your lab notebook. This notebook may be randomly collected and graded as a quiz - Notification for exams will occur 4-7 days prior to the exam date. - There will be 3-4 major exams per quarter Gonzalez 2014 - Quizzes may or may not have prior notification. The total number of quizzes per quarter will vary per quarter. - You will be given a take home Quests which will be 5 class days after they are distributed - One short-term project will be assigned per quarter - Homework will be checked daily. Late homework will not be accepted.. - Students are expected to participate on a regular basis during the classroom sessions. This will allow you and me to address any problems which may arise during the year in a timely manner. - Students are expected to behave in an appropriate and adult manner. Disregarding this will result in a detention TO BE SERVED ON THE DAY OF THE INFRACTION - Students must arrive to the classroom promptly and sit in their assigned seats upon entering. Students must remain in their seats for the entire period unless instructed otherwise. -Each and every class will begin with a prayer; reverence and participation are expected during all prayers. - Talking during class will result in two problems: 1) Loss of information and class notes and 2) Disciplinary consequences such as the loss of points on upcoming tests/projects. -Horseplay and childish behavior will not be tolerated to any degree. This will result in loss of points and potential involvement of the Deans office. - Horseplay in the Laboratory may and can result in injury. Students, who play around during lab will lose their lab privileges for the period and will fail the assigned lab. - If you need to contact me after school hours the best method is via my email located at the top of this sheet. Emails received before 6pm will usually be answered on the same day. Emails received after 6pm may not be answered until the next business day. Emails received over the weekend or during holidays will also be responded to on the next business day.
