Messiah – a person God planned to send to save the people from sins
Most Jews hoped for a powerful king who would free Israel and bring
prosperity to the people
Jesus refused to be the kind of Messiah the crowd expected
Jesus did God’s will by denying himself and serving the needs of all. He:
o Fed the hungry and helped the poor
o Forgave sinners and healed the sick
o Taught people about God and what he asked of them
o Called all people to share God’s life and love
Disciple – one who says yes to Jesus’ call to follow him
2. Jesus died on the cross for us.

All four Gospels record the details of Jesus’ Passion – his suffering and Death.
Last Supper – Jesus taught his disciples about love and promised them that
the Father would send the Holy Spirit.
In the Garden of Olives, Jesus agonized over his coming death. His fear was
real, but his faith was rooted in God.
Jesus was able to face suffering and death knowing how much his Father
loved Him.
Jesus was betrayed by his disciple Judas, was arrested, and brought to trial.
Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, condemned Jesus to die.
Jesus did not struggle, protest, or resist.
Good Friday is the name we give the day Jesus died.
