September 7-September 11, 2015 Focus Skill: Narrative Elements (Setting)- The time and place in which a story takes places is called the setting. Recognizing the setting helps readers understand what is happening and helps them predict what might happen later in the story. Reading Strategy: Self correct- Sometimes a word may not make sense the first it is read in a sentence, or the letters may not match the way the word is read. When this happens you can self-correct by looking carefully at the word and rereading it.
