III. Old Business
A. Concussion Prevention – All student athletes are requested to complete the Brain Health test
online
IV. New Business
A. Student Counsel Update
1. Prom will be on May 17th.
2. Teacher Appreciation activities this week.
3. Graduation will be on May 22nd.
4. Online elections for next year’s student council officers went well. The use of the new online
system seems to have alleviated many problems previously encountered by use of scantron,
i.e. students turning in more than one ballot, students voting outside their grade, students not
being allowed to vote because it takes up class time, etc
B. In/Out of Trips Approval
1. Approval of student trips was motioned by Anastasia Allen.
2. Seconded by Brecken Denler.
3. Vote was unanimous.
C. Service learning hours
1. About what percentage of our graduating youth get the service stamp on their diploma?
a. The final numbers are not available as of this meeting.
2. Is there any where on the MPS portal that parents, or students themselves, can see the how
many hours they have accumulated?
a. The students or their parents can see their counselor or go see Mrs. Warren in the
Career Center to find out the total number of hours a student has acquired.
3. What policies are regulated by the district and what policies are regulated individually by our
school? (Specifically relating to pre approval of hours and what "counts" as service).
a. The requirements for Service Learning are set by the National Organization.
b. NHS service hours do not add into Service Learning hours; it must be done manually.
A student would need to get an NHS time card at the beginning of the year, and then
submit those hours to Service Learning. Mrs. Halliday suggested that NHS advise
their members of this requirement.
c. 150 hours in high school (4 years) is required to get the Service Learning seal on the
diploma.
d. 110 points per year (5 points = 1 hour) of Service Learning is National Honor Society’s
requirement.
e. It was mentioned that students can even earn Service Learning hours for being a
student aide. There were several parents and faculty members who voiced disapproval
at this option.

4. Why must everything be pre-approved? Many opportunities for service come up, especially
in the summer time and it is too bad that those hours can't be submitted for approval.
a. Summer service hours must still be approved.
b. One parent reported that a student can go to wherever summer school is being held to
pick up and get a time card signed.
Flow of traffic from parking lot at lunch
1. With the addition of our new security personnel, do we have enough security to be able to
open the west gate of the south parking lot? The no left turn restriction on the south exit
prevents many of our parents and students from getting onto Lindsay or going /being able to
go west without a u-turn. If we don't have enough security personnel to cover both the south
and the west exit, how about just having the west gate open?
a. Joci Burgener said the SIAC Committee a few years ago addressed the “no left turn”
law at the southeast end of campus (Brown Rd) and took the issue as high up as they
could go to try to get it removed but they were ultimately denied.
2. What about the opening up the southeast gate (Lindsay Rd) during the day so lunch and
school hour traffic can get out?
a. There is not enough security officers to handle that. If they are not currently assigned
to gate duty, they are monitoring campus activity.
Graduation
1. What are the policies and rules for the graduating seniors? There are rumors that they are not
allowed to bring cell phones or even car keys. What are the restrictions and expectations and
are they new?
a. That is not a rumor and these are not new policies. The seniors have already been
informed about the expectations for graduation evening.
