TO: District 86 Staff Members FROM: David Anderson and Mike Matozzi – Summer School Principals SUBJECT: APPLICATION FOR DISTRICT 86 SUMMER SCHOOL 2012 DATE: March 19, 2012 If you are interested in being considered for a summer school teaching or support staff position, please complete the attached application and submit it to Karen Zahara at the Administration Center by April 5. Applications for team teaching, job sharing, and other non-traditional employment arrangements are encouraged and supported; we have seen many positive situations where teachers have shared summer school positions to work around their busy schedules. Therefore, don’t hesitate to consider this as an option. You may indicate this interest on the application or talk with one of us. Using the guidelines of the negotiated District 86 contract, the selection and assignment of summer school faculty shall be the responsibility of David Anderson and Mike Matozzi. Here is information about the Summer School 2012 program: LOCATION: CALENDAR: HINSDALE SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL 1st Semester – Monday, June 11 to Tuesday, July 3, 2012 (Wednesday, July 4th, is a school holiday.) 2nd Semester – Wednesday, July 5 to Friday, July 27, 2012 Classes meet daily from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHING COMPENSATION Salary -- $38.27 per hour if this is your first year teaching District 86 summer school $46.68 per hour if this is your second year or more teaching District 86 summer school Since the summer school day is 5 hours long and a semester is 17 days, an experienced summer school teacher would make $3,967.80 per semester, and a first-year teacher would make $3,252.95. Positions that don’t involve teaching every hour in the semester would be calculated at this hourly rate. For example, teachers of the class called “Reading Strategies” work 60 hours during a semester and would have their salary determined by this number of hours. *Plus the school district pays the same TRS on the salary that has been negotiated for the regular school year. Because of this, firm commitments to hire most teachers are made during the few weeks just before summer school. All teachers are encouraged to apply, but if your availability changes at any time between your application date and the beginning of summer school, please inform the Human Resources Office and Mike Matozzi and David Anderson. NOTE: District 86 Board of Education Policy prohibits the hiring of any person who is a relative of another District 86 employee. Listed below are the positions that will be offered for this summer. Reading Strategies (4 days a week) Science Inquiry and Research U. S. History Some positions, such as librarian and teachers of Reading Strategies, are not full-time positions for summer school. These positions will be paid at the hourly rate for summer school.
