Edison faces an issue with student tardies for the start of the day. The first bell is at 7:40 and students should meet their class at their line up spot out on the basketball court on their side. Students should not be waiting by their classroom door. When a student reaches 10 tardies, they will attend detention for each new tardy. For students that go over 15 tardies, they will earn after school detention and will not be dismissed until 2:40. We have been charged to improve our attendance rate for families with tardy problems. Students attending Edison under Open Enrollment must maintain good attendance standing to have their option renewed. If a student fails to attend their detentions- they will attend our In School Suspension program (ACE/ALC) at Lehi. Service Learning Interns – Connecting Colleges to our Campus Edison hosts a variety of college students for service learning and classroom internships. Each of these people are screeened with a background check similar to our employees and work with their university programs to gain work credit for their time on campus. Many, but not all, plan to be teachers and it allows students to get help beyond the time and attention that a single teacher can provide. We look forward to their service as interns begin to get started across our campus. It helps us better meet the individual needs of our students which is a benefit and the interns learn from teachers that have been trained to host them. We currently have students from ASU, NAU, GCU and MCC working at Edison this semester. This helps us get our students see the role AVID plays in preparing them to attend college by providing positive role models to work with and inspire them to achieve the dream of a college education. Classroom Corner Each Edison classroom will host a college classroom corner to decorate and promote college for our student population. Each classroom will be unique in their adopted college or university. We are asking that no in state colleges or universitiies be used. Classes are writing to college offices to see what kinds of donations we can obtain to decorate our classrooms. This event is held in east Mesa – Crossroads Mountain High School.
