The present perfect is used for SPEAKING in German
Just like in English, there are WEAK VERBS and STRONG VERBS
ENGLISH WEAK VERBS ADD “ED”
GERMAN WEAK VERBS ADD “GE” AND “T”

spielen
to dance
danced
tanzen
to shop
shopped
einkaufen
ENGLISH STRONG VERBS CHANGE INTERNALLY
GERMAN WEAK VERBS ADD “GE” AND “EN” AND
SOMETIMES CHANGE INTERNALLY
to see
saw
sehen
speak
spoke
sprechen
drive
drove
drive
The present perfect form has an auxiliary verb with its past participle. EITHER : HABEN or SEIN
When memorizing the verbs : memorize the auxiliary WITH the past participle :
IST gefahren or HAT gespielt.
Conjugate ONLY the auxiliary verb and place in the normal verb position.
The past participle will be LAST in the sentence or question.
1. He came later.
2. We bought a sofa.
3. We went home.
4. He spoke too fast.
5. I knew him very well.
6. Peter did that.
7. We ate at home.
