(Part 1) The primary program leader has sufficient previous study abroad or
international travel experience to effectively lead a Valencia study abroad
program.
(Part 2A) The program offers students a unique course of study and location.
(Part 2B) The program dates do not require students to miss other Valencia
class time (offered spring break or summer).
(Part 2C) There is a clear link between the destination and achieving the
learning outcomes.
(Part 4A) All learning activities and assessment methods clearly connect to
the course learning outcomes.
(Part 4B) The predeparture, in-country, and re-entry coursework
demonstrates academic rigor (lectures, active learning, experiential learning,
assignments, etc.) throughout the program.
(Part 4C) The program includes cross-cultural learning outcome(s) with

(Part 4D) The course utilizes both formative and summative assessment
methods to monitor student mastery of the course learning outcomes.
(Part 5, Budget, Proposal) The program is a relatively affordable price for the
experience and out-of-pocket expenses will not exceed $2100 (estimated
scholarships at $1700 unless otherwise designated). A commitment letter has
been attached for additional outside funding.
(Part 5) The accommodations are described in detail and meet safety
standards for participants. Homestays (if applicable) are managed by a
reputable organization.
(Part 6 & Part 2E) The program leader has outlined all potential health and
safety issues and emergency contacts and has thoroughly addressed them in
the proposal. The program does not present potential hazards beyond the
normal travel risks.

II. PROGRAM ITINERARY
A. The program meets financial aid requirements for academic engagement
hours (45 hours per 1 credit hour; i.e., 3 credits x 45 = 135 academic
engagement hours).
B. There are a sufficient number of predeparture (minimum 3) and re-entry
meetings (minimum 1) to effectively prepare students for the travel and
academic components of the program.
C. All learning activities have been outlined for the duration of the program
and linked to the learning outcomes.
D. Structured free time has been built into the program.
E. Meals included and not included in the program fee are clearly identified
for each day in the program itinerary.
F. Transportation methods for each activity have been clearly identified for
every day in country.
