List the positive attributes which you associate with the current organization. 2. How would you describe the membership of our organization? That is to say, who are we? 3. What kinds of messages do we want to present through our name to our membership? 4. What kinds of messages do we want to present through our name to the public at large? 5. What sorts of names can you list that portray some of all of the attributes and messages stated above? 6. Name change is a great time to look at who we are. Some things to consider that were mentioned by our staff are: There are already conversations about this in the community. I’ve been approached numerous times in Avalon Park inquiring about the name change and how we are going to be a ‘real’ college now like Seminole State College of Florida. After I kick them in the knee, I explain what is really going on here and at SSCoF. Communicating with the community, both on and off campus, is going to be extremely important. Students are also inquiring about getting other degrees here and not at UCF. How do we incorporate current Student Services and support to best serve both groups of students without confusing either group? Will we need separate services to serve them? Impact on how Student Development’s services and programs will need to change to serve both populations? SD budget is enrollment driven. How will the fees be assessed to the BS degrees? Will a separate budget need to be created so both populations? One concern I heard from an institution that has already add bachelor’s degrees is the need to incorporate the bachelor’s degree programs, advising, etc. into the culture of the college – not leave it on the fringes Opportunities To reach more of the community and partner with more businesses Community perception could change for the positive and they want to help us more Attract a different kind of faculty and staff Attract a different level of students Challenges What will the communities and expectations be? Explaining to students there is a cost differential for higher level courses SACS accreditation for higher level courses so they will transfer We still will not have sports programs SWOT Strength – (when we’re ready) greater enrollment and recruitment, additional value for community, Weakness – mission shift, possibly lose sight of accessibility and affordability of education, student needs Opportunities – increase competencies beyond those 4 we have for 2 year students, increased awareness in the community, potential positive paradigm shift in community and donor thinking when it comes to investing in the college Threats – I just didn’t like that word at all
