MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: MAIL CARRIER BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director, Purchasing & Material Management, deliver and pick up inter-campus and U.S. mail at designated campus and off-campus locations throughout the District; sort incoming and outgoing mail; use and maintain postage machines as directed. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Deliver and pick up District inter-campus and U.S. mail at designated campus and off-campus locations throughout the District; deliver and pick up monies at various campus sites and centers. 2. Sort incoming and outgoing mail; open unidentified mail and process according the department policies and procedures; determine recipient and forward or process accordingly. 3. Deliver classroom and business-related mail and packages to U.S. Post Offices and various locations throughout the county; ensure regular and timely delivery of Board agendas. 4. Deliver and pick up food service equipment at designated campus and off-campus locations throughout the District. 5. Operate a variety of equipment including an electric cart, forklift, and copier; district vehicles including driving one ton high truck with lifting gate; material handling equipment, postal equipment and copier. 6. Assist with processing mail in conformance with U.S. Postal Services regulations, including determining required amount and class of postage and weighing, metering and bundling outgoing U.S. mail as directed. 7. Assist with other departmental functions as needed including shipping and receiving, surplus disposal; transportation and purchasing functions. 8. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic postal regulations. Recordkeeping techniques. Health and safety regulations. ABILITY TO: Learn U.S Postal Services regulations and procedures. Learn District locations and read a map. Maintain routine records. Work independently with little direction. Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Operate, service and make minor repairs on equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from High School and one year of general work experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver license.
