Additional endorsements can be met through the completion of an approved college/university
endorsement program plus a passing score on the applicable WEST-E or NES content test in the
desired endorsement. If you have completed EWU’s approved program as listed in our catalog,
please complete this application and return it to the Certification Office, Eastern Washington
University, 312 Williamson Hall, Cheney, WA, 99004-2458, along with the following items:




YOUR CURRENTLY VALID WASHINGTON TEACHING CERTIFICATE-This
original (not a copy) of your certificate will be marked “invalid”, and a new certificate
will be issued and mailed to you. (Be sure to make a copy of the certificate before
mailing it to this office.) The new certificate will bear the same dates as the original
certificate. Adding an endorsement does not affect the validity of a certificate.
OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT(S) OF ALL STUDY USED TO APPLY FOR THIS
ENDORSEMENT-An official transcript is one that bears the registrar’s original seal and
signature.
APPLICATION FOR AN ADDITIONAL ENDORSEMENT-List prefix, title, credits,
grade, and institution where courses were earned for all courses used for this
endorsement.
ASSESSMENT IN ENDORSEMENT AREA-Effective 9/1/09 a passing score on the
WEST-E and/or NES TEST will also be required to obtain an additional endorsement.
When you register for this test please request EWU as a score recipient. The other option
to verify your passing score is to include your official score report that you receive in
the mail from the testing company. Please list the name of the test you completed
and the score you received:

Please make sure that all items listed above are sent in one complete package to EWU’s
Certification Office. Incomplete applications will be returned to sender.
After the Certification Office has received your complete application, it will be sent to the
appropriate department for final approval and signature.
*Note: All courses for this endorsement must be earned from a regionally accredited
college/university and must meet EWU’s specific content area grade point requirements.

ADD-ON ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM COMPLETION CHECKLIST
Instructions:



Complete the Application for an Additional Endorsement to a Residency Teaching
Certificate and submit to the Certification Office.
If official WEST-E/NES scores are not on file with EWU, submit official score reports
indicating a passing score on required test(s) in the endorsement(s) to be added.
Set up an EDS account with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI)
if you have not already done so. EWU will recommend you for the endorsement through
the E-Certification system. In order to complete the application process and have the
endorsement added to your teaching certificate you will need to log in to your EDS
account, apply via the university’s recommendation (link will be available), and pay the
associated fee. OSPI will then review and process your application and, if all
requirements are met, will mail your new certificate directly to you.
