In this section, you should highlight the roles and experience which have contributed to your professional development as teacher, academic leader and strategist of teaching and learning. You might include informal activities whether individual or, collaborative that you believe have had a significant impact on your academic practice and/or on the practice of others, particularly in relation to enhancing the student experience in College (or partner organization) or nationally. You should evidence the main influences on your own development, focusing on the progressive attainment of your professional role and how you and others have benefited from the continuous learning and development process involved. This section does not require a list of individual publications and conference presentations. There is no limit to the list but about ten activities should be sufficient. One activity MUST be a peer support activity. The first element – ‘D4.1: Active commitment to and championing of all Dimensions of the Framework, through work with students and staff, and in institutional developments’ –functions as an overarching descriptor in that it should be demonstrated through the examples and reflections incorporated into the other four sections. Each of the four sections should be given a substantive treatment though they need not be of equal length. One approach to demonstrating the Descriptor would be to present a synoptic narrative which evidences all aspects of the Descriptor. As you will not necessarily have immediate contact with students you will need to draw on examples of your work which illustrate your understanding of the use and the value of the UKPSF. This might include, for example, how you have used the framework to shape and develop policy, strategy and schemes within the institution. At the heart of this Descriptor lies the demonstration of ‘strategic impact and influence’ in the context of one or more location, institution or organisation. Evidence will therefore need to draw on ‘cycles’ or ‘levels’ of influence including evidence drawn from institutional, national and/or international settings. The emphasis is on ‘a sustained and effective record of impact’ (HEA Principal Fellowship Guidance 2015). You must address all of the Areas of Activity, together with relevant areas of Core Knowledge and all the Professional Values. There is no prescribed word count here as everyone’s experience is different but the guideline is around 1,000 words per case. The suggested word count would be no more than 6,000 for Part two and Part three of the application form together. The word count includes references.
