Admission & prerequisites Possession of the University’s basic admission requirements. The Drysdale Institute of TAFE Advanced Diploma of Hospitality or an equivalent award is also required. Those without the latter and those wishing to transfer from another degree course will be counselled as to the program of study that they would need to follow in order to undertake the Bachelor of Business Adminstration (HospMgmt). Course objectives The course is designed to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts of management, a familiarity with significant literature in the field and the ability to review, consolidate, extend and apply the knowledge and techniques to the hospitality management sector. It seeks to produce graduates with knowledge, skills and understanding of best practice in hospitality management, and the value of research, critical thinking and effective communication. Graduates develop professional skills in such areas as interpersonal communication, services management, working in teams, report writing and problem-solving techniques. They are given the opportunity to gain a professional degree in hospitality management. The course also provides holders of a Drysdale Institute of TAFE Advanced Diploma of Hospitality with the opportunity to gain a university qualification in hospitality management. Course structure The Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management consists of 16 specified core units and 8 specialised hospitality units. Because of the specialised nature of the course, it is not possible to include elective units. Candidates with an equivalent award will also be considered on an individual basis and following the advice from the course advisory committee, may be granted credit.
