Introductory comments
The Graduate Certificate in E-Health is offered by the University Department of Rural
Health – externally, using online teaching and learning technologies, over a minimum
completion time of 1 year part time (over two semesters), and a maximum 2 years part
time.
Admission & prerequisites
The course is suitable for health professionals who wish to enhance their understanding
and ability to work effectively with information and communication technologies. The
course is also designed for graduates who wish to pursue a career as a health informatics
specialist.
In order to qualify for admission to the Certificate or the Diploma courses, applicants
should
•
hold a three-year degree or a diploma with a major in a health related or
communications technology area,
OR
•
have experience and/or qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Director of the
UDRH.
Course objectives
The program has the following objectives:
•
To produce graduates who understand information technology and advanced
telecommunications technology.
•
To create an awareness of the increasing role and potential of information
technology and advanced telecommunications technology for effective and efficient
health services, particularly for rural, remote and housebound consumers.
•
To provide health professionals and others with the theoretical and practical
knowledge which will enable them to take leading roles within the emerging field of
Health Informatics.
Course structure
The course structure of the Graduate Certificate comprises four units, three of which are
core units, one of which is an elective.
The proposed program of study is shown in the following <zf>H5Es<ahtm>schedule.
Articulation
On completion of the Certificate, students may be eligible to proceed to the Graduate
Diploma. Students who have completed either the Certificate or Postgraduate program
may be eligible to undertake a Master of E-Health (Health Informatics) program when it is
introduced.
