Area 1 – Interdisciplinary Exploration – 18 cr. total
 Category 1 – Communication – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Honors students will learn to write effectively with distinct voice and
style, and be able to clearly articulate critiques on a wide range of texts.
 Category 2 – Inquiry – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Honors students will be able to recognize, articulate and challenge
assumptions of evidence in a broad variety of environments while recognizing interconnections in a
complex world.
 Category 3 – Social, Political, Economic and Historical Connections – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Students will learn to think critically in the social sciences using an
interdisciplinary perspective.
 Category 4 – Innovation and Integration – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Honors students will be able to apply analytical, creative and
intuitive thinking to problems solving in a wide variety of organizations and contexts.
 Category 5 – Leadership – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Honors Students will gain an understanding of the interdisciplinary
nature of leadership and critical leadership thinking to promote effective and ethical leader
development and enhance academic, career, and personal goals.
 Category 6 – Global and Cultural Engagement – 3 cr.
o Program Learning Objectives: Honors students will demonstrate self-reflection as well as
developing an understanding of and ability to think critically about diverse cultures through both
theoretical analysis and intercultural engagement in a variety of contexts.
Area 2 – Honors Electives – 9 cr. total
 Courses: May include any designated Honors courses not being used to satisfy a requirement from Area 1.
In addition, this category can be used to complete Honors in the Major.

Program Learning Objectives: Honors students will demonstrate intellectual and social maturation
