GENDER INCLUSIVE HOUSING POLICY & AGREEMENT
As a student selecting to live in gender inclusive housing, I agree to follow the terms and conditions
that are listed below.
1. I know Gender Inclusive Housing is a housing option which allows students the choice of living
together with other students, regardless of gender. Gender Inclusive Housing allows/encourages
students in the process of discovering their gender identity, who do not wish to identify themselves
by gender, gay or bisexual students, and students who feel more comfortable with a roommate of
a different gender the option to find a more compatible roommate and living situation within this
community.
2. I acknowledge Gender Inclusive Housing residents are expected to fully abide with and follow the
Student Code of Conduct and Resident Handbook.
3. I am aware participants must commit to maintaining a comfortable and safe living environment
free of discrimination based on gender identity, gender expression and/or sexual orientation.
4. I agree to the purpose of this program and understand that the purpose plays an important role in
setting and creating community standards that support the program. If I violate any part of this
agreement, the Student Code of Conduct, or the community standards the Office of Housing and
Residence Life may remove participants from Gender Inclusive Housing community.
5. I must adhere to the housing application/contract and deposit deadlines to be eligible for the
Gender Inclusive Housing Experience.
6. I am aware if I am not eligible for Gender Inclusive Housing Experience I can take part in the general
housing selection under the usual terms and conditions of the housing selection process.
7. I acknowledge I will commit to living in gender inclusive housing for one full academic year, for the
Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.
8. I am aware if a Gender Inclusive Housing resident cancels their housing or moves out of the room
for any reason, the remaining suitemates must identify a new roommate to fill the vacancy. The
Office of Housing and Residence Life will define the time allocated to find a new suitemate. This
window of time will vary depending on time of year and the status of the housing waitlist. If
another suitemate(s) is not identified within the time period, the Office of Housing and Residence
Life reserves the right to place a wait listed Gender Inclusive Housing applicant in the suite, leave
the vacancy open, combine two or more under capacity suites, or convert the room to a single sex
room. This decision will be made at the Office of Housing and Residence Life discretion, but
reasonable accommodations will be made wherever possible.
9. I may request a room change by following the normal room change procedures that are published
each semester.
10. I may not be eligible to take part in future Gender Inclusive Housing accommodations if I do not
fulfill my commitment to live in Gender Inclusive Housing Experience for one full academic year.
11. I am aware Gender Inclusive Housing is not intended for romantic couples. To respect and honor
the privacy of our students open housing procedures do not require me to disclose the reason for
my roommate request(s).
12. It is my responsibility to communicate with parents or family members about the decision to live in
the Gender Inclusive Housing Experience. The Office of Housing and Residence Life encourages this
conversation between parents or family members and me about my housing choice so that my
family can support my decision.
13. I acknowledge and will participate in at least two educational, social, or advocacy opportunities
provided by the LGBTQ Center or one community service project or outreach activity with the
LGBTQ Center per semester as a member of the Gender Inclusive Housing Experience. Students
who do not meet these requirements will not be asked back the following year.
