Admission of Ngee Ann Graduates with an Advanced Diploma in Ship and Marine Technology into NUS BEng (Civil) Programme Top Ngee Ann graduates with an Advanced Diploma in Ship and Marine Technology may apply for admission into our BEng (Civil) programme (Offshopre Engineering Specialisation) with module exemptions of up to 70 modular credits (MCs) out of the minimum required 160 MCs for BEng (Civil) degree. Background Upon the request of the marine industry to upgrade diploma holders, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (in collaboration with Strathclyde University) mounted an advanced diploma programme on ship and marine technology. It is a one-year full-time programme. The first batch of students was admitted into the programme in 1997. As at July 2004, some 109 students have graduated with this advanced diploma. The programme is accredited by IMarEST and RINA, United Kingdom. Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Offshore and Marine key industrial players (such as Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd) have approached the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) to consider the admission of Ngee Ann graduates with an advanced diploma in ship and marine technology into the offshore specialisation programme. CE Modules and Exemption The Ngee Ann advanced diploma holders be given 32 MCs exemption in addition to 38 MCs which we conventionally give to polytechnic diploma holders. In the table below, we list the modules for the CE programme. Under the section “Exemption”, we show the number of MCs exempted for normal polytechnic holders in and further exemptions for these advanced diploma holders. The advanced diploma modules, used for these exemptions, are also displayed.
