ITHACA COLLEGE’S GREENHOUSE GAS INVENTORY FOR FISCAL YEAR 2010 Jonathan Thompson (Susan Swensen) Departments of Biology / Environmental Studies & Sciences, Ithaca College Ithaca College’s Board of Trustees recently approved the Climate Action Plan (CAP), a document that outlines steps along the path to carbon neutrality (no net CO2 emissions). Ithaca College plans to become carbon neutral by the year 2050. How do we know when carbon neutrality has been reached? How do we know whether actions taken by the college have lowered our emissions as we work toward this goal? These answers are provided by the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory, assessed annually since 2004 by students working in collaboration with faculty and staff, along with a GHG calculating tool developed by the organization Clean Air Cool Planet. Ithaca College’s GHG for the fiscal year 2010 will be presented, along with how we go about conducting the inventory and some analysis of steps Ithaca College is taking to reach carbon neutrality.
